                                RIGHTS AND DUTIES

Rights and duties are inseparable. They are two sides of the same coin. Rights are certain conditions given by the state. On its part, the state commands upon each one of us to perform certain obligations or duties. Therefore, they are related in nature.

Our rights imply our duties. Every right has a corresponding duty. If one has a right to vote, it is one’s corresponding duty to exercise it wisely in electing the right candidate and not be influenced by religious, caste, monetary considerations.

Right of one is duty of another. Our right is another man’s duty while another man’s is our duty. If we possess the right to life, it is the duty of others to provide us the facilities to live a life of our own. If our neighbor has the right to freedom of religion, we have a duty to admit his right.

As the state guarantees our rights, we must perform our duties towards the state. A state is known because of the rights it maintains. As the state safeguards our rights, it is our duty to obey the state and its laws, e.g., the state grants us the right to use the road, but it is our duty to abide by the traffic laws and also to pay the taxes.

Our constitution has ensured some rights for us. They can be enjoyed. But we must not fail to perform our duties towards the country. They can best be called the two sides of a coin. Hence, right and duties go hand in hand.

It is a matter of regret that most of the particular citizens are neglectful of their duties to their country. The trend of seeking several right is increasing. The state too has ensured many civil, political and fundamental rights. These rights aim to make the overall development of every citizen without any biasness. Because of these rights we can even expect strengthening national unity. But we only seek rights. We always ignore other similar rights to us. We often people raise their voice for rights but they cannot see others enjoying identical conditions. This means they are forgetting their duty towards other people and the nation. Let’s hope this trend will get changed. Everyone will do their duties to the country, while enjoying the rights, guaranteed by the constitution.

In conclusion, rights and duties are like two sides of a coin. They are inseparable. They go hand in hand. One must be dutiful towards the nation and respect other similar rights to him to claim them form the nation.
